ASTYM Therapy

Steve Carling, physical therapist, performs ASTYM therapy on a patient

Carling Physical Therapy provides ASTYM treatment to the Gilbert/Chandler area.  ASTYM is one of the most effective treatments available for soft tissue injuries. ASTYM stands for augmentative soft tissue mobilization and is an advanced treatment which effectively initiates remodeling and regeneration of dysfunctional tissue.

How does ASTYM Therapy Work?

Trauma, repetitive strain, immobilization and surgery can lead to the formation of adhesions and fibrosis in the soft tissues. ASTYM stimulates the breakdown of this dysfunctional tissue and promotes the restoration of functional tissue to occur. Your qualified ASTYM therapist will identify the soft tissue adhesions and restrictions and through the application of microtrauma with ergonomically designed instruments a local healing process is initiated to break down malformed fibrosis and stimulate the remodeling and regeneration of healthy collagen fibers.

ASTYM is supported by scientific research and has proven effective when other treatments have failed. It does not require prolonged periods of rest and inactivity.

ASTYM has proven a beneficial treatment for the following diagnoses:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Lateral epicondylitis (Tennis elbow)
  • Medial epicondylitis (Golfer’s elbow)
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Chronic ankle sprains
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shin splints
  • Hamstring strains
  • IT band syndrome
  • Patellar tendinitis
  • Trigger finger
  • DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Rotator cuff strains
  • Post-surgical scarring
  • Shoulder pain
  • Trochanteric bursitis/hip pain
  • SI and low back pain
